Dave Erickson, CEO ScreamingBox; led a session at DeveloperWeek Global on the Main Stage
Dave Erickson, CEO ScreamingBox on his DeveloperWeek Global 2020 presentation – “Giving a presentation to a group of people is something I have done a lot of in my business career, and is something I am comfortable doing; but giving a presentation online, where the only thing you see is your own powerpoint in the monitor is really strange.
Still, it was a good experience, and after my presentation on “How ScreamingBox builds and manages remote teams and global projects”; I was able to answer audience members’ questions and meet with them in separate chat rooms. I was also able to listen to several of the presenters, and learned a lot about the industry and its future direction.
The good news is that the development industry is strong, and remote development will see and increase this year. This is mainly due to the fact that with all the major tech companies having their developers work from home, they have realized a loss of productivity of about 20-30%. They will be outsourcing that loss of productivity out to software development agencies and remote development. Many companies are finding that their digital platforms and products are seeing more users and usage, and are needing more development work as well.
The one thing all of these companies who are looking to outsource work, are looking to use developers from reputable companies with a good history and business presence. Even though business is difficult to do on-line, the experience of DeveloperWeek Global 2020 gives me hope and the confidence that business can grow even when face to face is not possible.”
