CEO Message
It is hard to believe that 10 years ago we started our digital development company. Like most businesses, the founders of ScreamingBox put all their hopes, dreams and care into the creation of the company. For me personally, 10 years ago ScreamingBox was the 10th company that I had either started, or started with partners. My initial role was that of Marketing and dealing with the Operations of the company, and later I became the CEO.
Starting and running a business is one of the most difficult things you can ever do in life. It is also one of the most exciting things that you can do in life. It is also one of the most impactful and emotional things a person can do. Some of the best times in my life, as well as some of the most painful times have been in building, running and closing businesses over the last 30 years. The good times are great, but it is the learning experience that you gain from failure and the bad times in the running of a business that actually allow you to grow as a business person. I am grateful for the good times and learning that I have had with ScreamingBox, and know there is more to come in the next 10 years.
Our company is all about our people and our clients. Over the last 10 years we have had more than 100 clients and 300+ projects, but more importantly we have had more than 150 developers, QA and designers work with us one or more projects. Many of these people still work with us, and many now have full-time careers, some have formed their own companies and businesses and others have gone off to new adventures outside of digital development. We are so happy to have been a part of all of these people’s lives and careers who have been a part of our company, and are happy to have experienced so many great people in the last 10 years.
In reality, a business’s 10th anniversary is something to note, not necessarily for celebration. Next day, next month, next year, we’ve work to do and we’ll do it. Still, many businesses don’t make it past the first year, let alone 10 years, so it is a milestone worth recognizing. What is really worth recognizing is all the wonderful people we have had the pleasure of working with over the past 10 years. I am still amazed by how fortunate we have been to work with some of the nicest people I have ever met.
Like many companies, ScreamingBox has undergone several major changes and revisions over the years as business and the industry changes. This is normal and will happen again in the future as things around us change. One thing I have learned in business is that nothing ever stays the same. Business is always changing, sometimes quickly and sometimes slowly and companies have to adapt to those changes in order to continue prospering.
I am excited about the prospects for the digital development industry, and look forward to seeing how new technologies and development tools will allow developers and companies to build even better digital products in the future.
People are not as simple as computers and writing code that runs on computers. This is because code, processors and data do not feel anything or have emotions. People do, and therefore people are much more complex than any device or code we humans have developed. We work hard every day to bring a more human touch to digital development; we care about our developers and clients and work to have a calm, positive and caring relationship with everyone we work with.
We all look forward to the next 10 years, and regardless of the tempo of business, are excited about what new processes and technologies are going to come into play in the coming years.
From a business perspective, word of mouth, referrals from past clients and developers and from our personal networks generate all our business. This makes us focus on all our relationships and keeps us tuned to the needs of everyone. Our monthly podcast has just finished our second year, and we had some really wonderful guests. We don’t expect that it will be a moneymaker, but we gain a lot of learning from doing it and strengthen valuable relationships. We are excited about next year’s guests and discussion topics, and look forward to learning about many new technologies in the development industry.
